DAILY JOURNAL: State educators prepare focus for 2016 legislative session

JACKSON – The Mississippi Association of School Superintendents, which in recent years has focused on fully funding the Adequate Education Program as its main legislative priority, said its focus during the 2016 session will be proposals that help improve student achievement.

Monroe County Superintendent Scott Cantrell, who is president of the state association, and Executive Director Sam Bounds said improving student achievement always has been Mississippi’s superintendents’ top goal, but conceded they might not have done a good job expressing that priority.

They explained that additional funding of the Mississippi Adequate Education Program would have provided the additional funds to help with local school districts’ efforts to improve student achievement.
